Sugar Season

As we turn towards Halloween, the Holiday Season begins. I also like to call this time of year Sugar Season. From now until New Year's Eve, there is more of everything – treats, alcohol, and food. More things to say yes to – activities, parties, concerts.

We often talk about filling our vessel with our practice. We do this to ensure we aren’t sharing with others from an empty cup. But we also need to take care of the vessel itself.

As part of the change in season to Metal, I have taken sugar out of my diet. Recently it was there on a regular basis in solid (chocolate) and liquid (wine) form. I prefer it to only show up on occasion. It was good timing for a reset.

Does this mean I won’t eat any Halloween candy? Or skip the Christmas cookies? No, but I will work to be mindful of the amount I indulge in. And it will be to indulge, not for everyday. Filling my vessel but also taking care of the container itself

See you in class!
